Charlotte Central School students have been learning about and are helping to inform our community about how to reduce stormwater runoff and pollution entering Lake Champlain via public school grounds

Summer can be a wonderful time for middle schoolers to relax, explore new interests, spend time with friends, and gain independence. At the same time, the less structured nature of summer can also create challenges for families. Clear, healthy boundaries can help young people stay safe, make positive choices, and enjoy a healthy summer.

On Thursday, May 21, CCS hosted our first Project-Based Learning (PBL) exhibition. Our library and classrooms came alive with projects reflecting our students' incredible creativity, collaboration, and hard work.

May is a meaningful time to focus on prevention, wellness, and connection as part of National Prevention Week, organized by SAMHSA. Building toward a brighter future is not only about supporting kids to avoid risky behaviors. It is also about helping children and teens build strong relationships, healthy coping skills, confidence, and a sense of belonging.

Through presentations, food, song, and greetings, attendees learned about Swahili, Marathi, Arabic, and Spanish, as well as some of the customs and cultures of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, India, Sudan, and Colombia that are shaped by these languages.

As April break approaches and routines shift, we encourage families to create balance by setting small, realistic limits on screen time to help improve sleep, mood, and connection. Even short breaks from devices can make a positive difference and open up time for meaningful activities together, like screen-free meals or afternoons.
